Associate in Fine Arts

Program Description
This 64-65 semester hour degree program is designed for students who plan to transfer to a college or university to complete a Bachelor in Arts (BA) degree with a major in art or music, a Bachelor in Fine Arts (BFA) degree in art or music, or a Bachelor in Music (BM) degree. The AFA offers a concentration in Art or Music.

The AFA degree is also a good choice for persons who want training in art or music with no plan to transfer to a baccalaureate institution.

Information

a 28-semester hour general education core develops a foundation in English, fine arts/humanities, social/behavioral sciences, mathematics, and natural sciences.

36-37 semester hours of elective courses provide in-depth study of art or music.

Transfer Notes

Completion of the AFA degree prepares students to compete for admission to BA/BFA programs in art or music. However it does not guarantee admission into a university art or music department.

AFA students will need to complete additional general education requirements at the receiving university.

All courses within the AFA will transfer to UNC-system schools; however, universities without BFA degrees may transfer specialized art and music courses as electives.

Academic advisors are the best source of information in preparing specific portfolios or meeting audition requirements for university programs.
