TRiO Student Support Services

TRiO is Academic Scholars Program offering program participants one on one academic advising, graduation help, transfer assistance, motivation and support to increase a student’s chances of graduating from college.

Mission Statement

TRiO Student Support Services at Craven Community College is committed to creating and maintaining a supportive environment for low income, first generation and disabled students that encourages academic excellence & integrity, student success, and individual responsibility through leadership and service.

Purpose

The purpose of TRiO Student Support Services at Craven Community College is to assist participants in overcoming social, cultural, financial, personal, academic, and other challenges to fully participate in the life of the college and ultimately achieve the goal of graduation.

Participation

Eligibility for TRiO Student Support Services is determined by federal regulations.

Students must be:

  • Highly motivated to graduate from Craven and/or transfer to a 4-year institution.
  • Committed to their academic success.
  • Enrolled full time in a Certificate or Degree program.
  • Pell Grant Eligible.

Upon receipt all applications are reviewed for eligibility.  Eligible applicants will be invited for a brief intake interview to determine eligibility. The Craven Community College TRiO Student Support Services program is funded to serve 180 students.

TRiO Program Services

The TRiO Student Support Services program consists of several key components:

  • Tutoring and supplemental instructions
  • Academic advisement and support with course selection
  • Transfer assistance and 4 year college transfer trips
  • Financial and economic literacy
  • Career assessment and planning
  • Financial aid and scholarship assistance
  • Academic Success workshops
  • Computer lab and study center
  • Orientation to campus activities
  • Referrals to campus and community resources

All services are provided at no cost to TRiO SSS students
